First and foremost, couples need to thoroughly discuss their wedding shoot with me. This will prevent unexpectedly challenging shooting situations that might prevent me from meeting a couple's expectations. More often than not good photo / video shoots are accomplished by planning, not by chance. If a couple has special poses, settings or other concerns in mind, be sure to discuss them ahead of time with me so that I can properly prepare for them.
However, do not be afraid to think outside the box!!!!! I will make every effort to accommodate all of your wedding photo and / or video desires.
Remember, nowhere is it written that wedding photos & videos have to look banal and traditional. This is especially true when they are taken in the scenic tropical settings found in beautiful Negril Jamaica!
Beach & Shoreline Locations in Negril (Lighting etc.)
For these locations morning hours are best as far as lighting is concerned! This time of day gives you about a 70% guarantee of capturing both a sunlit atmospheric sparkle and a beautiful blue sea in the background of any photos and videos taken then.
This time of day however, does bring the possibility of shadows under the eyelids and chin which I can minimize with my use of a fill flash.
A beach wedding in the afternoon hours offers only a 50 - 50 chance of having a good sunset because that's when Jamaica often has cloudiness and the possibility of rain.
There can be a loss of natural daylight due to cloudiness and rain. If there is no clouds. The sun will be out in all it's glory, but angled directly at the camera lens, (when shooting straight out to sea) causing heavy backlight and rendering peoples faces dark, even with the use of flash.
Video shooting into heavy backlight is even worse than shooting still photos into it because the details of the background and people's clothing sometimes have to be sacrificed to get the necessary exposure of their faces.
Brides, also show off the “rock” while signing the register (even when others are signing) - try to ensure that the hand with the ring is always on the table and not in your lap.
Yes, it’s about the bling!!!!!
Kissing shots look better when the couple’s faces can be seen from the side by the camera.
We know grooms, that you just want to swoop in and kiss your lovely bride, but remember in going in for that nuptial kiss, you can block the view of your bride’s face and end up showing the back of your head to the camera. Don’t worry if this inadvertently happens however. It only means that you might be asked to kiss her again to show both of your faces in the replacement photo.
It is always looks good when the couple tries to look at each other and/or make conversation while walking down the aisle towards or away from the video camera. This really enhances your wedding video!
If there is no designated podium for giving toasts all should stand close to the people they are toasting so that I may get them all into the shots. This makes practical sense in capturing a shot that tells the story.
Remember that your wedding will be shot with one video camera (unless other arrangements are made), so strategic staging will give more value for money.
